New Programs/Events
Teen, Pre-teen, and Youth
Activities
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer the
following activities:
September 1st and September
15th - Teen Council Meeting-Recreation Center-5:30pm ages 13-18
September 2nd -Teen Night at House of Blues, Myrtle Beach-6-11:30pm
$10 ages 13-18
September 9th- Game Night-Recreation Center- 6-8pm ages 10-18
September 10th- Remote Ramping-Sk8 Park- 9am ages 10-18
September 11th- Scooters- 1-6pm $5 ages 10-18
September 16th- Back to School Bash-Recreation Center-5-8pm $2 ages

50+ Softball Registration
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking
registration for 50+ Softball. Women, ages 18 and over, and men ages
50 and over, may register at the Recreation Center. League play will
begin tentatively September 20th. Fee is $10 for residents and $15
for non-residents. Call 278-4747 for more information.
Skate Park Hours
Beginning September 6, 2005 the hours for the Oak Island Skate Park
will be as follows:
Fridays- 4-9pm Saturdays
10am-9pm Sundays 1-8pm
The Skate Park will be open on
Labor Day Monday. Call 278-4747 for more information.
Nature and Ocean Education
Center Hours
The Oak Island Nature Center and Ocean Education Center will be open
Labor Day, then open Friday-Sunday from 12-5pm. Call 278-4747 for
more information.
Punt, Pass, and Kick
Competition
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Punt,
Pass, and Kick Competition on September 10th at 10am. The event will
be held at Smith Park. Boys and girls, ages 8-15, will compete in
punting, passing, and kicking a football for distance. All
contestants will receive a certificate. Winners will receive awards
and advance to the Regional competition. Call 278-4747 for more

Get Moving Again Oak Island
It’s time once again to launch our Get Moving Oak Island Program.
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department would like to
challenge residents to complete a town goal of 200,000 minutes of
movement in a 10-week time frame. The Department also wants to meet
a goal of at least 75 total participants. The event begins September
12th. Join us as we strive to increase the physical activity level
of our community. Pre-register at the Recreation Center or by
calling 278-5518.
Tunes at Twilight Concert
Series
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the
following artists as part of the 2005 Tunes at Twilight Concert
Series:
Brent and Mike Acoustic
Duo-September 8, 2005-Middleton Park- 6-8pm
Bring a lawn chair or blanket
and enjoy the sounds of summer. This series is supported with
funding from the Brunswick Arts Council. Call 278-5518 for more
information.
Kayak Trips
Join Oak Island Parks and Recreation as we tour various points
throughout Oak Island by kayak. Perfect for the beginner paddler,
these trips offer a first-hand chance to see birds, fish, and other
aquatic wildlife. Trip fees are $10 for residents and $15 for
non-residents.

Note: By Law, appropriate
car seats/booster seats are required for ages 8 and under or 80
pounds when participating in Recreation Department programs
involving transportation.
