Bottling at Silver
Coast Winery
Press
Release
February 17, 2006 – Ocean Isle
Beach, North
Carolina (NC) - Silver Coast Winery is gearing up for spring and
welcoming the warmer weather with a short bottling run on the 16th
and 17th of this month. Bottling is always an exciting time at the
winery because it gets everyone enthusiastic about the new vintage
of wines, and gives people something to look forward to in the
future months. Typically the wines bottled this week will not be
ready for a month or more, but guests often get a sneak preview of
what will soon become available to them.
The winery uses a mobile
bottling unit from Virginia which houses all the components needed
for the task at hand. Three wines will put into glass this week, two
from 2005’s grape harvest; a White Merlot and a Viognier, and one
new offering from 2004’s fruit. Thirteen hundred cases of White
Merlot are set to go. This is a blush wine made from red grapes and
finished in a slightly sweeter fashion, and has been a big hit at
Silver Coast since its inception in 2002. There will be a scant two
hundred cases of the 2005 Viognier bottled, the second vintage for
this elegant and complex white wine. Viognier’s addition to the
Silver Coast lineup has been a success story, frequently showing
well in wine competitions and with loyal customers. The winery sold
nearly fifty cases of the first vintage before the wine was even
released. The third wine being bottled is anxiously awaited, but is
a bit of a dilemma. It is a proprietary blend of hand selected
barrels from 2004’s harvest; the mix being Touriga, Mourvedre,
Sangiovese and Merlot. The wine has a distinct Mediterranean style
with ripe berry fruit and bright floral accents. And did I mention
only two hundred and fifty cases will be bottled. At the time of
press this wine is yet-to-be named, and there is not yet a label
selected for the wine.
Bottling at the winery is not
only exciting, but it is an interesting process to watch unfold. It
is a clock-work type of operation which signals the upcoming rewards
for a lot of hard work.
