Obituary

July 31, 2009 – Southport, North Carolina (NC) - Mr. Cashwell Beverly "Cash" Caroon age 77 of 416 E. Bay Street, Southport died Tuesday July 28, 2009.

Mr. Caroon was born in Oriental, North Carolina on August 6, 1931 and was the son of the late Elmo and Beatrice Edwards Caroon. He moved to Southport at a young age and founded and operated C.B. Caroon Crab company for many years. He was a member and former Chairman of the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Board. He was a former member of the Southport Board of Aldermen and also served as Mayor of the city of Southport. Mr. Caroon was a faithful and dedicated member of Southport Baptist Church where served as Deacon, teacher of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and also a member of the Adult Choir. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Caroon. He enjoyed working in his yard and gardening and fishing his nets and also an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Ross Caroon; brothers, S.E. Caroon and Darrel Lee Caroon.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Ross Caroon; four sons, Donald B. Caroon and wife Hazel of Aurora, NC, Lionel D. Caroon of Southport, NC, Brian Keith Caroon and wife Terry of Southport, Carl Adam Caroon of Southport; twelve grandchildren, Amy Huggins, Lionel Ezra Caroon, Robert Ross Caroon, Carl Daniel Caroon, Bryan Cash Caroon, Skylyn Caroon, Joshua Caroon, Benjamin Caroon, Christen Price, Joanne Hatchell, Crystal Willetts, Julie Canovatas; nine great grandchildren, Emma Price, El Huggins, , Jessica Blain Caroon, Chase Price, Cora Bell Hatchell, Brooke Wilcox, Brandon Wilcox, Jeffery Chrysostomid; four brothers, James Edward Caroon of Culpepper, Va., Robert Scott Caroon of Coynjock, NC, Linald Reginald Caroon of Lowland, NC, Marion Neil Caroon of Oriental, NC; two sisters, Helen Alma of Alliance, NC, Glenda Lewis of Coynjock, NC.

A service to celebrate the life of Cashwell Caroon will be held Saturday August 1, 2009 at 11:00 am at Southport Baptist Church with Reverend Foyd Bennett and Reverend P.D. Midgette officiating.

Burial will follow in the Northwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will his Tuesday Golfing Buddies, Al Propst, Paul Fisher, Jim Hinkhouse, George Fisher, Frank Bausch, Ed Snead.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
