With record
attendance and memberships now at an all-time high after just
four monthly meetings, the newly formed
Brunswick Civil War Round Table will hold its next monthly
meeting on Tuesday, November 2nd with another outstanding guest
presenter…Keith Hardison, Director of the North Carolina
Department of Historic Sites. His topic is “Confederate
Commander in Chief: The Military Background of Jefferson Davis.”
Keith’s
extensive knowledge on this subject relates directly to his
educational background, historic interpretation experience and
professional positions which include Division Director of the
Louisiana State Museum in Baton Rouge; Executive Director of
Knoxville’s Mabry Hazen House Museum; and, Director of
education, interpretation, and visitor services at the Pamplin
Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier
in Petersburg, Virginia. From 1986 – 1999, he was executive
director of Beauvoir, Confederate President Jefferson Davis’s
home and library in Biloxi where he was honored by being named
the city’s 1998 Historian of the Year.
Registration
for the November 2nd meeting begins at 6:30 at the Trinity
United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St.,
Southport, across from the Southport Post Office. Everyone
is welcome. Visitors will be invited to become members. Annual
dues are $25 for individuals and families, and $10 for students.
As a non-profit organization, most of the dues collected go
toward inviting the most interesting and knowledgeable
historians covering a variety of subjects relating to this
important period in our country’s history.
