Brunswick Civil War Round Table
To Meet December 7th

Following a near record crowd, and an all-time high in new member sign-ups at their Tuesday, November 2nd meeting which featured guest presenter Keith Hardison, the Round Table now announces its December 7th program. This meeting will feature Jim McKee, senior interpreter at the Brunswick Town/Ft. Anderson State Historic Site. His topic for the evening will be “The Early Days of the Civil War in New Mexico.”

His presentation should be especially interesting since we seldom if ever hear about the Civil War taking place in New Mexico. Plus, this topic is of personal interest to Jim because he has ancestors who fought on both sides during the war, and his primary focus will be on surgeon James Cooper McKee during that 1861 New Mexico Campaign.

Jim’s background and experience are most impressive. He is a lifelong student of military history, and has worked at Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania National Military Park and the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. He is an active Civil War re-enactor as Captain of Adams’ Battery E, 3rd U.S. Light Artillery. Jim currently resides on the board of directors for the Moores Creek Battleground Association, and is vice president of the Brunswick Civil War Round Table.

The Tuesday, December 7th meeting will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St., Southport, across from the Southport Post Office. Registration begins at 6:30. Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to become members for an annual fee of $25 for individuals and families, and $10 for students. Since this is a non-profit organization, all proceeds will go primarily toward expenses incurred to invite the most renowned, knowledgeable and entertaining Civil War historians.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. For additional information, please contact Round Table president Wally Rueckel at wrueckel@questor.com, or call (910) 253-7382.
