Brunswick Arts Council Needs Volunteers

October 18, 2012 - Brunswick County, NC – The Brunswick Arts Council is seeking volunteers for the Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 Charles Dickens Christmas Festival in historic downtown Southport. This is such a worthy endeavor because any money raised by this group goes towards providing quality arts-related experiences and opportunities for ALL the Brunswick County's culturally diverse residents. The six operational divisions of the Council are: The Literary Arts Division; Grants and Development Division; The Performing Arts Division; The Student Arts Education Division; the Visual Arts Division and the Multicultural Program Division. Scholarships, individual artists grants, group grants, county-wide art shows, Arts in School Initiative (ASI), vocational arts enrichment programs, musical instruments and lessons for low-income students are just some of the ways the Brunswick Arts Council makes a difference in our county.

The support we're receiving has been overwhelming and lots of talented people seem to be ready, willing and able to help. We are hoping to transform the streets of Southport into everything Dickens. School children will be involved in performances, out of town Dickens experts and dramatists will perform, there will be singing groups of all types, plays, artists and craftsmen, Gingerbread House, Christmas Tree and costume contests, and of course, FOOD. Some will be English fare including high tea at several Bed and Breakfasts! We will start making assignments soon!

With the complexities of this event, there are many volunteer opportunities. Some that immediately come to mind are event parking and security, ticket sales, setting up and tearing down, retail sales during event, first aid, audio-visual experts, construction of sets, lighting, children's games, storytelling, costume contest coordinator, seamstresses, performers, hostesses, venue captains, sign makers, artists, brochure distributors, prop people and much more. Our Team Leader for Volunteers is Janet Ferraioli and she would appreciate hearing from you. Her contact info is: phone number 754-5666 or janetferraioli@gmail.com.

Give her some ideas as to where your interests lie and she will look for just the right volunteer assignment for you!
