Brunswick Civil War Round Table
Round Table Audience Enjoys Thomas
Presentation
February
8, 2013 - Southport, NC - A most interesting topic and a
sense of humor captivated the near capacity audience of
260, including 94 women, at the
Brunswick Civil War
Round Table meeting held on Tuesday, February
5th.
On hand was guest speaker Emory Thomas, Regents
Professor of History Emeritus at the University of
Georgia, history professor at three universities and
author of numerous books and articles, primarily
concerning the Civil War. His topic was, “The Dogs of
War: The Martial Moment, 1861.” Prior to the start of
the war, both the North and the South believed if there
was going to be a war it would be short lived. Neither
side could possibly imagine the eventual outcome when
after a four year battle over seven hundred thousand
lives were lost.
Round Table meetings are usually held on the first
Tuesday of the month at Trinity United Methodist Church
in Southport. Every meeting features a renowned Civil
War historian. Everyone is always welcome. The guest fee
is $5 and can be applied toward the $25 annual
membership dues. For more information, contact president
Wally Rueckel at (910) 253-7382, or
