Oak Island Lighthouse Run - April 20th

March 19, 2013 - Oak Island, NC - The 15th Annual Oak Island Lighthouse Run & Walk will be held Saturday, April 20th kicking off at 8:00am from the N.C. Baptist Assembly @ Fort Caswell. The Annual event has grown each year with a record participation last year of 612 people and estimated economic impact over $129,000.

A great family event, the Oak Island Lighthouse Run & Walk showcases the beautiful beach communities of Oak Island and Caswell Beach. The 10k (6.2 miles), 5k (3.1 miles) start and end at the N.C. Baptist Assembly @ Fort Caswell with a beautiful scenic route in between as it runs parallel with the beachfront in Caswell Beach and passes the Oak Island Lighthouse twice.

The 1/2 marathon (13.1094 miles) course will run parallel with the beachfronts in Caswell Beach & Oak Island, traveling through the holly tree lined streets of the Yaupon Beach section of Oak Island, crossing over, under and back over the G.V. Barbee Bridge, winding through the Oak Island Golf Course area, then out Caswell Beach Road passing the Oak Island Lighthouse just before the finish line inside the N.C. Baptist Assembly.

New for 2013: Go Time will provide professional timing and race management. Go Time is an event management company in Wilmington, NC specializing in all areas of race management, race day timing, and live finish line results. Go Time uses only cutting-edge RFID technology that allows real-time results. Go Time races feature disposable bib chip timing with instant results, as the racers’ finish results are displayed; chip check at registration, an emcee and full service Audio and Visual equipment.

Each year, Ricky Evans, Art @ 211/The Ricky Evans Gallery in Southport donates an original design featuring the Oak Island Lighthouse which will be used on the t-shirt and on the 240 print awards given to the winners in all three events. Those that finish the 1/2 marathon will also receive a finisher award, a medal featuring the run’s logo. Print awards are presented to top three runners overall Male & Female; top three runners Male & Female in 12 age brackets and Overall Male & Female Active Military.

Race Packet Pickup and Registration will be held on April 19th from 5pm-7pm @ The Chamber Welcome Center or on Saturday, April 20th from 6:00am-7:30am @ N.C. Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell. Entry fee is $30.00 per person for the 5k or 10k and $45 for the 1/2 marathon.
