Ocean Isle Beach Chapter of American Wine Society Announces Tasting Theme For May

Ocean Isle Beach Chapter Meeting May 26, 2013

American Wine SocietyMay 6, 2013 - Ocean Isle Beach, NC - Today the Ocean Isle Beach Chapter of the American Wine Society announced the theme for its next scheduled meeting and wine tasting event.

The Ocean Isle Beach Chapter will hold its next wine tasting event for area wine lovers and their guests on May 26th. The theme for this meeting will be "Wines from Chateauneuf du Pape." This tasting will feature wines from the southern Rhone valley appellation of Chateauneuf du Pape. This region is known for its dark, full-bodied, dense, rich and spicy red wines. While its white wines do not carry the same allure, they tend to develop exotic scents and aromas. Come and experience all that the southern Rhone Valley has to offer.

April's meeting, which featured wines from Connecticut, was the most highly attended event since last summer, said Barwikowski, Chapter chair. "The tasting featured 10 wines from 5 Connecticut wineries. Connecticut is one of the fastest growing wine regions on the East coast, and now supports 34 wineries. For wine lovers of any level, Connecticut wineries are indeed worth a visit."

The April meeting was also attended by Jane Duralia, National President of the American Wine Society who addressed the group. Jane complemented the group for their efforts to bring wine education and appreciation to coastal Carolina. The Chapter has plans for future tastings which will feature a vertical Cabernet tasting, wines from Germany and participation in the national tasting project featuring Rhone style wines. Everyone is welcome to attend chapter meetings.

Chapter meetings are held at the Silver Coast Winery located at 6680 Barbeque Rd. Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469. The meeting will be held on April 28th starting at 4:00 PM, and will have a strict limit of 40 attendees. The cost of the tasting will be $10 for AWS members. The guest tasting fee is $15, $5 of which will be refunded, if the guest joins the American Wine Society. All guests are urged to bring their favorite wine glass for this event. Prior to the tasting, the chapter will hold a brief meet and greet social with wine, and cheese being served.

All those planning to attend this event are asked to RSVP, by 5/23/13 via e-mail to: OceanIsleAWS@gmail.com.
