Old South Tour Company's Katie Compton Leads Rotary GSE Team From The United Kingdom On Tour Of Southport

May 7, 2013 - Southport, NC - Katie Compton, owner and tour guide with Old South Tour Company, led a Rotary GSE (Group Study Exchange) team from the United Kingdom on a tour of Southport on Thursday, May 1, 2013. Compton is past president of the Southport Rotary Club.

"It was an honor to lead our visitors from the United Kingdom on a tour of our wonderful town," says Compton. "It was a pleasure to introduce them to our town's history and to hear about the historic towns and villages in which they live."

Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races and creeds.

The Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.

Old South Tour Company is kicking off its tenth tour season this year. The company's signature tour is the historic Ghost Walk by Lantern Light, a 90-minute tour that begins at the famous Whittler's Bench on the historic Southport waterfront. Tours typically begin at 8 p.m. every Tuesday through Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day, or by reservation.
