The North Carolina
Maritime Museum at Southport is calling on
artists to exhibit and sell art work and goods this
summer as part of the Department of Cultural Resources’
final 2nd Saturdays event of 2013, scheduled for August
10 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
“Artists of all types are welcome and there is
absolutely no fee to participate,” says Museum Assistant
Sharon Venis. “Vendors in the past have sold jewelry,
home decorations, candles, soap and more.”
Farmers with products such as honey, soy candles,
cheeses, or herbs are also encouraged to participate.
Vendors are required to supply their own table and tent
and space is available on a first-come, first-served
basis.
2nd Saturdays combine the unique power of the arts and
heritage with lots of hands-on fun each second Saturday
during the peak summertime vacation months. For families
on a budget looking for exciting things to do, for a
“staycation” or a local weekend getaway, 2nd Saturdays
programs from the Department of Cultural Resources are
the answer.
The Museum’s theme for 2nd Saturdays on August 10 is
“Blockade Running in the Lower Cape Fear.” Learn about
blockaders, blockade runners, pilots and prices.
