Barbara J. Willis - Oak Island

Barbara Willis, 78 of Oak Island, N.C. died Saturday July 14 after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Originally from Rochester NY, she and her husband Norman moved to Long Beach, NC in 1969 where they became well known by the locals as owners of Barb’s Seafood.

A devoted wife and loving mother, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Norman Willis and children, Dana and wife Gail Willis of Oak Island, NC, Jon and wife Patti Willis of Bloomfield, NY, Jeff and wife Toni Willis of Canandaigua, NY, Donna Hughes of Tampa, Fl, Jan and husband Tony Overman of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, and Joel Willis of Bolivia, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Butterworth and her brother John N. Butterworth, Jr. She is survived by her sisters Beverly Stocum of Southport, NC, and Blanche Petrie of Rochester, NY., 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and a wealth of friends.

Barb devoted her life to Jehovah in 1954 and has been a member of the local congregation of Southport for more than 40 years. She will be remembered for her deep love for Jehovah and her desire to share that love with others. Whether it be on a park bench or in line at a grocery store, she took every opportunity to share her hope with all she met. A warm loving sister to all-she will be missed.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 6:00-8:00pm at Peacock-Newnam and White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe St., Southport.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 20th at 3pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 960 Southport-Supply Road.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, (pulmonaryfibrosis.org).
