Henderson Meekins - Bolivia
Mrs.
Betty Cooper Henderson Meekins, age 81, of Bolivia, died
Thursday, August 23, 2012.
Mrs. Meekins was
born in Briceville, Tennessee on May 15, 1931, daughter
of the late Leon Cooper and Clara Johnson Cooper. She
was preceded in death by brothers Jim Cooper and Baby
Henry, sisters Deloris Elkins, Dorothy Dishman, Baby
Lora Jean and grandson Baby Alexander. Mrs. Meekins is
also preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years,
Ferris Henderson Jr. who died in 1978 and her second
husband of 23 years Boyd Benton Meekins who died in
2011. She worked as a banquet waitress with Hilton
Hotels before retiring and was a member of Faith Baptist
Church.
Survivors include two sons William L. Henderson and
spouse Linda of Pennsylvania, and Carl J. Henderson and
spouse Colleen of New York; one step-son Donnie Ray
Meekins of Loris, SC; two daughters Frances Jones and
spouse Willie of Bolivia and Suzanne Wofford and spouse
Dean of Pittsboro; two step-daughters, Karen Kirkman and
spouse James and Sharon Bell and spouse Julian all of
Bolivia; one brother Carl Cooper of Ohio; three sisters
Ann Hayes of Michigan, Sandra Elliott of Tennessee, and
Judy Ross and spouse George of Tennessee; 14
grandchildren, Karla Kelly and spouse Terry, Jamey
Braden, Arthur Wofford, Alorra Wofford, Anderson Wofford,
Amanda Gomez and spouse Bill, Caitlin Henderson, Lisa
Henderson, Shawna Henderson, Donnie Mack Meekins, Boyd
Matthew Meekins, Jeremy Bell and spouse Rena, Natali
Payne and spouse William, and Nicole Kirkman; six great
grandchildren, Noah, Gabriel, Damon, Liam, Myla, and Nya;
an expectant great grandson Ethan; loving friends Mary
and Steve Sofranak, David Smith, Vicki Sundberg, and
Barbara Robinson; and faithful feline companion Bootsie.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday,
August 30, 2012 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral
Service Chapel with Reverend Stephen Raleigh
officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery,
Bolivia. Pallbearers will be Wendell Knox, Anderson
Wofford, Kenneth White, Steve Sofranek, and Edward
McKeithan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one
hour prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of
one’s choice or Brunswick Senior Resources, PO Box 89,
Bolivia, NC 28422.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Dr.
J. Todd Kornegay, the doctors and staff of New Hanover
Regional Medical Center, Liberty Hospice especially
Nurse Kim Sheppard and Nurse’s Aide Tina Jackson, and
the many neighbors who have been so helpful and kind
during this difficult time.
