Hubert Ellis Smith - Southport

Hubert Ellis Smith, age 77, of Southport died Friday, August 17, 2012 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born on June 18, 1935, son of the late Wiley Hubert and Elizabeth Coleman Smith. He worked for Mac Construction before retiring as a heavy equipment crane operator. Mr. Smith was a member of Sonrise Independent Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one great grandchild Sierra Clabby.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Smith of the home; one son, Thomas Smith of Southport; two daughters Terrie MacCarter and husband Bruce of Lake Waccamaw, Barbara Delia and husband Battista of Glen Bunie, Maryland; three grandchildren, Michelle Clabby, Jason Russell, Richie Smith; four great grandchildren; two step-sons Christopher Alan Barksdale and wife Margaret of Colorado Springs, Daniel Barksdale of Columbia, South Carolina; one stepdaughter, Crystal Foil of Southport; and one step grandchild; one brother Bobby Smith and wife Jill of Hillsborough; two sisters Erna Swain of Southport and Polly Matthews of Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 5:00 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
