“Kathy” Wilson Glover, 80 died Tuesday, August 14, 2012
in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in
Wilmington.
Mrs. Glover was
born January 11, 1932 in Oxford, NC the daughter of the
late Lonnie Lewis Wilson and Mollie Leigh Beaver Wilson.
She moved to Oak Island with her husband in 1999 from
Cary. Mrs. Glover was a member of First Baptist Church
of Oak Island where she was a member of the choir, a
Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the WMU. She was
instrumental in starting the Grief Share Support group
at her church and also loved to visit Ocean View United
Methodist Church. Mrs. Glover developed an interest in
local politics. She was a member of the Oak Island Tree
and Vegetation Committee, the Senior Citizens Committee,
the Senior Center, and the Beautification Club. Mrs.
Glover regularly attended Town Council meetings and
would sometimes express her opinion. She was a member of
the Eastern Star, and had served as Grand Worthy Matron.
She was a member of the Edith Chapter OES #160, in Cary
and the Live Oak Chapter OES #179 in Southport. Mrs.
Glover enjoyed lunches and activities at the Oak Island
Rec. Center, where she also served Nutra-lunch. She
enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts, and gardening. Mrs.
Glover was preceded in death by her husband Bill Glover,
a son Steven Allen Glover, and a brother Bruce Wilson.
Surviving is her daughter Cyndi Roberts and husband Jeff
of Summerfield; a sister Bettie Wilson Thorne of Oak
Island; four grandchildren, David, Dana, Jonathan, and
Jennifer Roberts; a nephew Alex Thorne of Washington,
DC; and her special friend and companion Chris
Christensen.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday,
August 18, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island
with Reverend Rick Ables and Reverend Fred Roberts
officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00
to 11:00 am prior to the service at the church.
