Sargent - Oak Island
Catherine "Katie"
Sargent, age 93, of Oak Island died Tuesday, January 8,
2013.
Katie was an RN and veteran of WWII where she met and
married the love of her life, Carl “Bud” Sargent. She
joined him Tuesday night in her new home. Katie leaves
behind a legacy of warmth, sweetness and caring. She was
a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and
great grandmother. She enjoyed all of these, but being a
mother was what she loved the most. She gave her
children wings and let them fly while supporting them
with love and a “as long as you are happy” saying. Katie
was predeceased by her daughter Cathy,
She is survived by Susanne Villeneue and her husband
Michael, son Galen, Nancy Voikos and her children Alex
and Zack; Cathy Dove’s children Jonathan his wife April
their children Shamus and Eve; Ben Dove and partner
Colleen; Charles Sargent and his partner Rhonda Hess,
Charles’ son Matthew, his wife Iris and their daughter
Ariana; Pamela Sargent and fur children Rosie and
Mischief. Her pets were also family members, making sure
they were spoiled.
If you met Katie you were instantly welcomed into her
world and came out blessed by being a part of it.
Friendship was very important and she maintained friends
for years, staying in touch with cards and letters. She
was a good listener, never speaking of her own aches and
pain which she had many, but providing words of comfort
to others. A nurse for many years, it was natural for
her to put other people’s needs first. She practiced
random acts of kindness often, whether it was cookies
taken to appointments, brownies for BLT productions and
her famous cookies at Christmas. She knitted blankets
for babies, made pillows and quilts for family and
friends. People up and down the east coast have items
made by Katie with love. She enjoyed volunteering at the
Dosher Flea Market with her husband for many years.
Katie was the best example of how a life should be
lived; facing adversity with courage, strength and
determination, surrounding herself with music, loved
ones, giving of herself without expecting anything in
return, seeing everyone as an equal, appreciating the
world around her and all its beauty, loving walks on the
beach and feeding the seagulls.
Heartfelt thanks goes to the staff of Liberty Home
Health Care, Oak Island Rescue, Brunswick County Rescue,
Dosher Memorial Hospital and Rehab, Ocean Trail, New
Hanover Medical Center , Lower Cape Fear Hospice,
