Bartholomew - Caswell Beach
John
Walton Bartholomew passed away on April 1, 2013 after a
hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 69. He was
the son of Paul and Lalia Bartholomew, of Drakes Branch,
VA.
John was a proud
graduate of Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte
Court House, VA, Class of 1962. He then earned his B.S.
Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in
1966. John worked for the Federal Government for his
long term career, which included the National Security
Agency, Dept. of the Navy and lastly with the Dept. of
Energy where as Director of the Strategic Petroleum
Reserve he was awarded the “Presidential Rank Award –
Meritorious Executive” by Pres. George H. W. Bush. After
retiring from the Government and moving to Southport,
John and his wife, and later with son Jeff and wife
Debbie, had a custom home construction business. They
later owned the Huddle House Restaurant on Oak Island.
John was also a Town Commissioner in his final home town
of Caswell Beach, NC.
John is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) King
Bartholomew of 46 years. He also leaves behind son Jeff
Bartholomew of Brunswick County, NC, with wife Debbie
and their sons Jason, Casey and Jamie and son Scott
Bartholomew of Asheville, NC with his wife Katie and
sons Elijah and Clayton.
Wife Betty and sons Jeff and Scott along with family and
friends spent a great deal of time with John during his
last days with us.
John is predeceased by his parents, Paul R. and Eulalia
(Lalia) Puckett Bartholomew along with his brother Paul
R. Bartholomew.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Ocean View
Methodist Church on Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC at
a later date. Funeral Services will be held in John’s
home town of Drakes Branch, VA at Lebanon Methodist
Church 2:00 pm Friday, April 5, 2013 with a reception to
follow.
