M. Loraine McKeithan
McLamb - Southport
Mrs. Loraine
McLamb, born October 18, 1919 in Little River, SC,
passed away April 24, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice
and LifeCare Center in Bolivia, NC. Loraine was retired
from the New York Times. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Harry and Annie Evans Jenrette, nine
siblings: Gertha Ward, Ora Dare Krushes, Dupree, Annie
Caudill, Ellis, Henry, Howard, Thomas, Morris, and
survived by her youngest sister, Betty Hart and her
three children, step-sister Cynthia Bailey. The brothers
and sisters and their respective children shared a tight
knit relationship as evidenced by the many homecomings
held over the years.
Loraine was married to the late Reverend Jennis McLamb
for 16 years and survived by step-sons, Redell, Thomas,
Richard, Wilbur and their respective spouses and
children. They spent those happy years together in
Little River and were long-standing members of Beulah
Baptist Church where she was the oldest active member.
She cherished her relationship with the McLamb family
and the kindness and love they have given her over the
years.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband of
49 years, Early Elton McKeithan, son Elton Jr., in-laws
Hiram and Dorcas, and siblings, Annie Mae Watts, John
Eldridge, Tony and Dorcas Ann Lewis, and their
respective spouses and children. Loraine is survived by
their son Kenneth Ray and his wife Carolyn,
granddaughter Melissa Rae Haugen and her husband Jeff
and their daughter Lauren Rae. Loraine is also survived
by her granddaughter Tracy McKeithan Rabon and
step-grandson Darryl Bennett.
Indeed, Loraine was dearly loved by both of her families
and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 27,
2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in
Southport with Reverend Jesse Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the
service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Loraine’s families would like to thank the staff of
Carillon Assisted Living in Southport for the excellent
care they provided, which made her last few years
comfortable and enjoyable.
