Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport is the only independent, Critical Access Hospital in North Carolina. The primary service area is Smithville Township and surrounding communities of Brunswick County. It is governed by a board of trustees which is elected by the public.

Dosher has more than 300 employees, 100 doctors and other professional providers on its medical staff, and more than 150 volunteers. Dosher owns and operates 10 primary care and other clinics in southern Brunswick County.

Our mission is to be the “Friendliest, most patient-focused hospital in North Carolina.”

Recent awards include recognition for the Dosher Wound Care Center, named a national Center of Excellence for delivering a 97 percent heal rate for patients in its second year of operation. This followed a 95 percent heal rate in year one, unprecedented for a start-up service.

The Dosher Emergency Department also earned two national awards for delivering consistently high patient satisfaction scores month in month for two straight years.

A new service this year is a nurse navigator for total joint replacement patients.
