New Programs/Events
Lunch Break Yoga
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer Lunch
Break Yoga on Wednesdays. The classes will begin at noon and last
for approximately 30 minutes. Take a break from work and relieve
some stress. Fee will be $2 for residents and $3 for non-residents
per class. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Call

Tennis Lessons
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer tennis
lessons for the following groups:
Future Stars- For ages 6-12
and designed for students to learn the fundamental strokes and
techniques for a solid basic foundation. The classes will be held on
Fridays from 3:30-4:30pm or 4:30-5:30pm. Fee is $50 for five weeks.
Lessons to begin in March.
Adult Tennis-Designed for
beginner and intermediate players. Emphasis is on building proper
strokes and techniques, movement, court sense, strategy, and fun!
Meets on Thursdays at 10am. The fee is $50 for five weeks. Lessons
to begin in March.

Dixie Girls Softball League
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking
registration for the Dixie Girls Softball League. The league is open
to girls ages 6-18 and groups will be divided as follows: 6-8, 9-12,
13-15, and 16-18. Teams will play against other county teams such as
Lockwood Folly, Town Creek, Shallotte, and Leland. Practices will be
held at the softball field at Middleton Park. Games will be held
primarily on weeknights and practices will be held according to the
team coach’s schedule. No more than 2 practices per week. Coaches,
referees, and team sponsors are also needed. Deadline to register is
March 10th. Fee is $20 for residents and $26 for non-residents. Call

Kickboxing Classes
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is currently offering
kickboxing classes. The classes are held on Mondays from 5-6pm and
on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30am. Cost is $26/month for residents and
$31/month for non-residents. Call 278-5518 to pre-register.
Adult Soccer League
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking
registration for an Adult Soccer League. The league is open to men
and women ages 18 and older. Teams are now being formed. The season
will begin in April. All games will be held at the soccer field at
Middleton Park. Games will be in a friendly and supportive
environment. Fee is $100 per team. Deadline to register is March
25th. Individuals and teams are urged to call 278-4747 for more
information.
50+ Softball
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will begin
registration for 50+ Softball on March15th. This softball league is
open to men ages 50 and over and women ages 18 and over. The fee is
$10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Rules are modified to
avoid injury and contact between players. Deadline to register is
April 8th. The season will begin in mid-April and run through the
end of May. All games will take place on the softball fields at
Middleton Park. Call 278-4747 for more information.
Baseball and Softball
Clinic
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a free
baseball and softball clinic taught by Doug Cummings, head coach at
South Brunswick High School. The clinic will be held on March 18th
at Smith Park on Fish Factory Road. Youth, ages 5-8, will meet from
9am-noon and youth, ages 9-12, will meet from 1pm-3pm. Players will
learn various skills such as batting, fielding, throwing, pitching,
base running, offensive and defensive strategy, and much more.
Participants should bring their own glove. The clinic is free but
pre-registration is required. Call 278-5518 to pre-register.
Note: By Law, appropriate
car seats/booster seats are required for ages 8 and under or 80
pounds when participating in Recreation Department programs
involving transportation.
