Sphar Receives Tourism Person of the YearFebruary 1, 2011 - Southport, NC - North Carolina Coast Host names Karen Sphar, Executive Vice President of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce as its Tourism Person of the Year – Southern Region. The announcement was made at the organization’s annual membership meeting & awards luncheon at the Courtyard Marriott in Carolina Beach last week. Sphar has served as the NC Coast Host Treasurer for about 20 years and has served the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce for almost 23 years. Sphar was recognized for her support, assistance and guidance of the organization, as well as her tireless efforts to promote tourism to the area she serves including Bald Head Island, Boling Spring Lakes, Caswell Beach, Oak Island, St. James and Southport.
