NC - General Nathan Bedford Forrest holds that
distinctive title, having risen from a hardscrabble
life to the South's legendary military cavalry
leader. His life's story is the subject of the Round
Table's Tuesday, October 4th meeting to be held at
Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 209 E.
Nash St. in Southport, across from the Southport
Post Office. Registration begins at 6:30pm. Everyone
is welcome. There is no admission fee, and guest
attendees are encouraged to join this rapidly
growing non-profit organization of nearly 300
members. Monthly meetings always feature the most
knowledgeable and interesting Civil War historians
speaking on a variety of subjects and events
relating to the war.
This month's featured guest speaker is Brian S.
Wills, Ph.D. He is the Director at the Center for
the Study of the Civil War Era, and Professor of
History at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw,
Ga. Dr. Wills has received numerous honors and
awards for outstanding achievement; is a
Historian/Consultant; reviewer of various Civil War
manuscripts, chapters and textbooks; and, guest
lectures at Civil War Round Tables and seminars
around the country. He is a prolific writer and
author on a number of Civil War topics, and is best
known for his award-winning biography entitled:
"A Battle From the Start: The life of Nathan Bedford
Forrest."
For those attendees wishing to become members of the
Brunswick Civil War Round Table, annual dues are
$25 for individuals and families, and $10 for
students. Meetings are usually held on the first
Tuesday of each month except during July and August.
