The
Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce
marked the new management at the Southport Inn with
a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the new owner Irena
Sedivy at the Inn located at 119 N. Davis Street,
Southport.
The Southport
Inn, an historic Southport landmark, was originally
constructed in 1864 as a Nordic sea captain's
retreat. The nostalgic ship captain recreated the
steeply pitched roof lines and ornate gingerbread
reminiscent of the architecture of his homeland. The
high interior ceilings are crafted with tongue and
groove bead board in concentric patterns. The floors
are original painted heart pine. Southport bow trim,
a trademark of our coastal craftsmen, adorns the
windows and doors. In 2004, The Southport Inn, was
spared the wrecking ball and a possible future as a
parking lot. There is a passion to preserve the
sacred and bring history to the present. The true
beauty and history of this historic home was hidden
behind layers of detritus and woeful disrepair. The
Inn has been lovingly updated with respect to its
architectural integrity and historical significance.
