The Southport Times Adds Rare Postcard To Collection

"The Fourteen" at Fort Caswell

July 15, 2012 - Southport, NC - The Southport Times is pleased to announce the addition of a rare harbor view postcard to their extensive collection of Southport area postcards.

This new card is a real photograph postcard depicting the "The Fourteen" off the point of Fort Caswell, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The City of Southport can be seen in the background. The card is undated and not postally used, but likely dates from the 1910s.

No information could be found on "The Fourteen," but is likely a private pleasure vessel, which accounts for the rarity of this card. It is highly unlikely that this card was ever mass produced and this example is likely to be the only card ever made of this photograph. Any information about the "The Fourteen" would be greatly appreciated.

As previously announced in April, The Southport Times' postcard collection will be published in print format in a book entitled "Postcard History Series: Southport, Oak Island and Bald Head Island" by Arcadia Press in South Carolina. The book will be written by Kris Friend, current blog writer for The Southport Times, and will be available in the spring of 2013. Read Full Article>>>

The Southport Times is happy to be able to acquire this rare postcard in time to be included in the book.
