Civil War Round Table
Women’s Participation During The
Civil War Topic At October Round Table Meeting
September
19, 2012
- Southport, NC – The
Brunswick Civil War
Round Table is pleased to have popular
historian and living history interpreter Charen Fink,
R.N., M.Ed., as guest speaker presenting in period dress
at their Tuesday, October 2nd meeting. Her presentation
is entitled, "Civil War Women at War."
The importance of women
during the Civil War is often underestimated. From the
daring adventures and the critical support roles they
played, to those who actually became spies for both the
Union and the Confederates, women were very much
involved during that historic time. The men fought the
battles and made the headlines, but the women made vital
contributions affecting the events and eventual outcome
of the war.
Ms. Fink's credentials
and affiliations are most impressive. They include being
past president of the Mahoning Valley Civil War Round
Table, Society of Civil War Surgeons, National Museum of
Civil War Medicine, Society of Women of the Civil War,
Southport Historical Society, Cape Fear Civil War Round
Table, and is currently a director of the Brunswick
Civil War Round Table. She also volunteers for the
National Park Service, and writes for several Civil War
Round Table newsletters, including the BCWRT.
The meeting will be held at Trinity United Methodist
Church, 209 E. Nash St., Southport. Registration begins
at 6:30. The admission fee for guests is $5 which can be
applied toward the $25 annual membership dues for adults
and couples. There is no fee for students. The Round
Table is a non-profit organization, therefore most of
the fees and dues collected go toward inviting the most
interesting and renowned historians each month. For more
