Joan Tyndell - Southport

Mrs. Joan Tyndell of Southport and formerly of Charlotte died June 26, 2011.

Mrs. Tyndell was born in Auckland, New Zealand on October 7, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Grace Anderson Smith. She was the wife of the late Stanley Giles Tyndell. She resided in Charlotte for over forty years before moving to Southport so her family could take care of her. She was a resident of Carillon Assisted Living of Southport, NC where she was the resident Queen of Bingo. Her love of flowers and plants always brought beauty to her home along with her cat. Her witty sense of humor along with her wonderful New Zealand accent always made for spirited conversations with her friends. She was known as “Nana” to the grandchildren who she loved dearly.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Tyndell and wife Anthe of Holden Beach, NC, David Tyndell and wife Judy of Lake Worth, Florida; four grandchildren, Brandon Tyndell of Raleigh, Christopher Tyndell of Charlotte, Brooke Tyndell Ahrens of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Drew Tyndell of Atlanta, Georgia; great grandchild, Tyndell Eve Ahrens of Del Ray Beach, Florida ; a brother, Fred Smith of Te-Kauwhata, New Zealand, and nieces and nephews of New Zealand.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 16, 2011 at 11am at East Baptist Church, Charlotte with Mark Lancaster officiating.

Her family would like to thank all of her caregivers in Southport at Dosher Nursing Center.
