Clyde Galloway - Bolivia

Clyde Galloway, 92, of 320 Galloway Road, Bolivia, North Carolina, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Galloway was born January 6, 1920 to the late Frank E. and Annie Maultsby Galloway. He was the grandson of Franklin and Sarah Dew Galloway and CSA Captain Samuel W. and Betty Powell Maultsby. Mr. Galloway was a farmer all of his life and an avid hunter. He always had epic stories to tell involving deer, bear, coon, and quail hunting in and around the Green Swamp. Although retired, he still continued to grow a large garden up until his recent illness. It was a rare sight for Mr. Galloway not to be seen working his garden. He was the last of the Galloway family to have grown rice, worked naval stores, and to run the family gristmill. Mr. Galloway was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a lifelong resident of Brunswick County. He was preceded in death by his brothers Adrian, Arthur, Carl, and Marvin Galloway; sisters Mae Galloway Atkinson, Agnes Galloway Garner, Ora Galloway McKeithan, Olive Galloway Vogt, Dixie Galloway Barracliff, and Margie Galloway Tharpe.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maggie Aileen Galloway of the home; daughter Eloise Causey and husband Burnice of Shallotte; sons Clyde Alan Galloway of Raleigh and Franklin Earl Galloway of Bolivia; grandchildren Joseph Causey and wife Lisa of Leland and April Trull and husband Mark of Bolivia; great grandchildren Christopher and Patrick Evans and Nicholas and Carleigh Causey. He is also survived by one sister Wilma Galloway McVey of New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Anthony Clemmons at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Galloway Road, Bolivia. Burial will follow in the Galloway Family Cemetery on the family farm in Bolivia. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2012 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Frank Galloway (Hallsboro), Billy Galloway, Ray Galloway, Ed Maultsby, Harvey Bell, and Charles Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be W.A. Clemmons, Ricky Clemmons, Warren Knox, Alan Vereen, Lei Frazier, and Boyd McKeithan.

In lieu of flowers, the Galloway family asks that donations be made to the NC Nature Conservancy’s Green Swamp Project, The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203 or The Nature Conservancy, 2807 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.
