Don Lessin – Southport

After 85 well lived years Don Lessin died June 22nd, 2012.

Don was born in McCausland Iowa the first of four children of Paul and Leona Lessin. He spent his early years helping on the farm, hunting, fishing, and trapping. In high school he played football and began a life long love of motorcycles with the purchase of his first Harley-Davidson.

After some college and time in the Marine Corps, Don settled in southern California. There he met his future wife, Marilyn, and began his career with IBM.

Don and Marilyn were married in 1952 in Long Beach, CA. In their early married years Don enjoyed riding and racing motorcycles, hiking, fishing, skin diving, and biking. Don and Marilyn raised 6 sons and 1 daughter and their family now includes 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grand daughter who were the delight of Papa/Grandpa.

Don moved the family from southern California to Cary, NC in 1971 and after 35 years with IBM he retired from in 1987. He and Marilyn moved to Southport in 1993. This move brought new friends and interests like history classes, boating, fishing, and shrimping.

Don is survived by his wife Marilyn Stultz Lessin, his sons Bob Lessin (wife Adele), Bill Lessin (wife Valinda), Tom Lessin, Jim Lessin (wife Gail), John Lessin (wife Pam), and Jerry Lessin (wife Wendy), his daughter Kathleen Beaulieu (husband Greg), his brother Larry Lessin (wife Carol), and his sister-in-law Sue Lessin.

Don is proceeded in death by his sister Marvelle Claussen and his brother Jack Lessin

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport on Monday June 25th at 11am and will be followed by the internment of ashes in the columbarium and reception.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Southport Volunteer Rescue Squad and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
