Gerald Richard "Jerry" Simpson - Southport

Jerry passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2012 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Camden, New Jersey to the late Herbert and Edyth Simpson. Upon graduation from Merchantville, New Jersey High he attended the College of William and Mary and from there went to Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. After his commission into the United States Navy he attended flight school and received his wings in 1955. After leaving the service, he went to work for AMP, Inc. (now Tyco) where he remained until retiring in 1997. Jerry and his wife June moved to St. James in 1997. Jerry was very involved in the life of his new home, but he especially loved the four golf courses at St. James. He was also very active in his church, where he participated in the many outreach programs and served on the vestry.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, June, and his three children; Richard (Barbara) and their twins, Ryan and Melissa; Susan Shaffer (Mike) and their daughters Sarah and Sami, and Tom (Julie) and their daughters Jackie and Christina.

A memorial service and reception will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, February 26, 2012 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Southport.
