Johnnie G. Sullivan -
Winnabow
Johnnie
Gaston Sullivan, 80 of Winnabow, passed away peacefully
on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the New Hanover Regional
Medical Center in Wilmington, with family at his side.
He was born and
raised in Winnabow, on December 29, 1931, son of Wiley
Barkley and Annie Lou Willetts Sullivan. Along with his
parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife,
Virginia Florence Holden Sullivan, who passed away on
Feb. 15, 2010; sisters, Pearl Cook, Mildred Peadrick,
Lizzie Bond; brothers, Haywood C. Sullivan, Thomas
Lindon Sullivan, William Barkley Sullivan, all of
Winnabow.
Survivors include
daughters, Pamela Latrelle Richards (Jim) of Winnabow,
Teresa Lynn Collier (Gray) of Gardnerville, NV, Gayle
Lisa Harber (Darrell) of Rocky Point; a son, Johnnie L.
Sullivan of Winnabow; nine grandchildren, Danielle
Richards Holbrook (Michael), Arika Richards Henry,
Lindsay Richards Gaughf (Joseph), P. Jason Collier
(Tara), Christine Collier Johnson (Benny), Joshua A.
Sullivan, Virginia Hill Medley (Tim), Alisa N. Hill, and
Daniel D. Harber; and seven great-grandchildren; Autumn
& Gabrielle Holbrook, Triston & Braxton Henry, Chandler
Carlyle, Chevy & Halle Gaughf. Also surviving is a
sister, Laura Lee Coulter, sister-in-law Eleanor
Sullivan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family was especially important to Johnnie and while
living in Florida, helping the love of his life, Ginny,
raise their family, he always looked forward to the
times they could go “back home” and spend time with his
brothers and nephews. Part of this time at home was
spent in heated “discussions” of course, for that is the
Sullivan way. It is hard to think about Johnnie without
picturing him on his riding lawnmower, cruising down and
around the dirt road, looking for a yard that needed
mowing, always willing to help out.
The visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on
Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Peacock – Newnam & White
Funeral Service in Southport. The funeral service and
celebration of Johnnie’s life will be held at 11:00 am
on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Lebanon Baptist Church in
Winnabow with Reverend Stephen Raleigh officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the
burial the family will receive friends at the family
home in Winnabow.
