Judy Byerly - Oak Island

Judy Ellen Zimmerman Byerly, age 63, of Oak Island died Friday, June 22, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Byerly was born April 30, 1949 in Rowan County, daughter of the late Emmett Ray and Mary Mina Blackwelder Zimmerman. She was originally from Winston-Salem and graduated from Parkland High School in 1968. Mrs. Byerly was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island where she served as a Sunday School teacher and served in the van ministry. She loved her son, grandchildren, and the children of the church and community. She collected various items such as Mickey Mouse collectables, Coca-Cola memorabilia, and Barbie dolls. Mrs. Byerly loved to work on crafts with sea shells.

Surviving are her high school sweetheart and husband of 44 years, William Michael “Mickey” Byerly Sr.; a son William Michael Byerly Jr. and wife Michelle of Southport; three brothers, Ray Zimmerman and wife Pelita of Corpus Christi, TX, Ronald Zimmerman and wife Gay, and Benny Zimmerman and wife Jan both of Winston – Salem; three sisters Brenda Leonard, and Sherry Zimmerman both of Winston – Salem, and Debbie Tant of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Alicia Palmer, Matthew Craven, Corey Craven, Megan Byerly, Hannah Byerly, and Michael Byerly III.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 25, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Oak Island. Reverend Charlie Carter and Reverend Rick Ables will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, at the church. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 2:00 pm in the Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC.
