Donald “Don” Bruce
Wells, 63 of St. James died on Monday, January 7, 2013
at the Naval Hospital on Camp Lejune, North Carolina.
Don was born April 22, 1949 in Denver, Colorado the son
of Jay B. Wells and Elaine Roberts Wells. He retired to
St. James in 2009 after living in Fredrick, Maryland for
the preceding 35 years. Don was a 20 plus year employee
of Grunley Construction in Rockville, Maryland. He
played lacrosse and was his team’s captain at Towson
University. Don and his son competed for several years
in the American Canoe Association national competitions
as a father / son tandem team. Don enjoyed boating,
gardening, and golf. He was preceded in death by his
mother and a sister Susan Moore.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years Marsha Wells; a son
Greg Wells and wife Carolina of Harpers Ferry, West
Virginia; two brothers Kent Wells of Wilmington, North
Carolina and Allen Wells of Eldersburg, Maryland; a
sister Janis Viall and husband Bob of Sandwich,
Massachusetts, a granddaughter Skylar Wells and a
granddaughter yet to be born Olivia Wells; many nephews,
nieces, and in-laws.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday,
January 13, 2013 in The Hill Chapel located at 6 East
Main Street, New Market, Maryland.
